Treasure Color Champ ABR Fall FestSpring is definitely show season in the alpaca world, there are many shows to choose from and it is almost impossible to attend them all.   Shows provide a great marketing and networking opportunity but we also need to keep in mind the welfare of the alpacas.

We try and limit each of our show string to 3-4 shows per show season.  As we select our alpacas for each show we also try and select those that are “buddies” as they handle the stress of travel and show better if they are accompanied by a familiar pasture buddy.  It follows on that if our alpacas are happy while they travel they will show better in the ring.

The Alpacas in the Ozarks Show   took place this weekend in Clarksville, Arkansas.  We were not able to attend the show as we are on cria watch with our girl Queen, but we did enter our male “Trevasura’s Altiplano Treasure” who we co-own with our friends Bob and Regina Dart of Llano Soleado Alpacas.  Bob Dart bravely made the trip to Arkansas driving through some terrible weather that spanned three states.

Our boy Treasure did us proud coming in first in a class of 14 and then going on to take Reserve Color Champion!  Well done Treasure (and great job of showing him Bob)!  These days the white alpaca classes are so competitive it is an achievement to get any ribbon, but to take first place in a large class and then to secure Reserve Color Champion illustrates what a great young male Treasure is.  We are hoping he will be ready to start his breeding career before too long.

Also at the show the Dart’s light brown juvenile female LSA Regent’s Moonlight Pavane also took first in her class and then went on to win Reserve Color Champion too.  Pavane is out of our herdsire Enchantment’s Prince Regent who now has four Color Champions and two Reserve Color Champions in his offspring to date.

So even though we didn’t attend the show we still had some great results and are very proud of our boy Treasure for his accomplishments and also of our boy Regent, not only for his own accomplishments but also for those of his offspring.
