I am delighted with your hat as I am on a mission to make some functional hats. I have been surfing for ideas and possible design solutions. I am new to felting and hat-making thus only discovered your blog because of someone surfing my site. I only began felting 10 months ago and I have found it relaxing, enjoyable and fascinating. I certainly love the the feel of alpaca and hope to have a supply of it soon. As to the construction of this lovely hat, did you have or make a form for it? I discovered a way of form-making using, “Great Stuff”…..yes that expanding, canned insulation spray sold in hardware stores. I look forward to surfing your site for more gems like this hat.
Glad to hear that my hat making experience was helpful to you. Hat making is a lot of fun and as you say it is also relaxing. It is so satisfying when you look at your finished product and know that you created it.
I did use a form for my hat, my friend who taught me how to make felt hats let me use her form for my first project, now I need to acquire my own forms. I would love to hear about your “Great Stuff” form making method.
Good luck with your hat making, let me know if you have any other questions and of course when you are ready to stock up with alpaca remember we always have fiber for sale.
